someofmyfavorites asked: When you were starting out, who were your musical idols? What was the first album that you remember buying? What age did you start playing the guitar? Your most embarrassing lead singer moment? If you were not a singer/songwriter/guitarist what would you be doing? At what age did you start playing the guitar? Who is your all time favorite band? (You really don't have to answer all of them but hoping at least 1?) Thanks! I love MCS!

When I was in high school I enjoyed the following artists (and in most cases I still do):

Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Pavement, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, The Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr., Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Medicine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Superchunk, Weezer, Fugazi, Jawbox.

I can’t remember the first album I bought with my own money. But it must have been something by Bon Jovi, Poison, or Mötley Crüe. The first cassette tape ever given to me was by my dad. For some reason he gave me Beastie Boys’ Licensed To Ill and a Night Ranger tape for christmas when I was 10. I have no idea what his thought process was on this other than he must have seen a “Most Popular” section and grabbed two at random. I enjoyed both, but I had never heard anything like the Beastie Boys before and I quickly memorized every song (and still know most of them by heart-even better than my own lyrics).

I started playing guitar at age 12 on a shitty guitar that my aunt gave me from her boyfriend at the time.

I have had a lot of embarrassing moments as a singer and most of them involved forgetting significant amounts of words on stage.

If not a musician, I would like to think I would be involved in movie making in some fashion, but most likely I would be working for my parents’ embroidery business full time instead of part time.

You already asked me that question.

All time favorite band at the moment is either Pavement or Superchunk.

Thanks for the ?’s.
